Light Spa examines the bodily affect of light as pseudoscientific therapy, and the psychological and physiological effects harnessed by non-lethal weapons in the context of law enforcement and the military. Visitors experience a continuous light program immersed inside an immaterial nucleus created by 41 radially arranged controllable lights. Authorized by a personal magnetic card, the generated program shifts from mesmerizing firefly motifs to incapacitating scanning and flashing patters, creating powerful illusionary afterimages and alternate realities for the viewer.

Commissioned by Daniel Sauter for the exhibition Light and the Unseen, curated by Julie Rudder.
